In 1997 Abacela became the first American winery to bottle a Tempranillo, and in the following vintage it began winning accolades and awards. As the awards continue to pile up, Abacela expanded and now offers Tempranillo in four styles. While the Reserve is the high end and has garnered tons of medals, the “Fiesta” is its most popular and is described as “fruit driven” by the winemaker. It is that and much more. The color is dark garnet, and the aromas include ripe black raspberry, clove and woodsy notes. It is rich and savory on the palate, bursting with ripe, but not over-ripe black fruits. Round and smooth, it is full-bodied, but has enough tannin to keep it in check. Worked well with lasagna. Better to be enjoyed over the next 2 to 3 years.
