Winemaker Ntsiki Biyela is the first female black winemaker in South Africa. She launched her brand, Aslina Wines, in 2016, named after her grandmother. In 2017 she was named one of the year’s Most Innovative Women in Food and Drink by Fortune. “Umsasane” is the local name for the umbrella acacia tree, which was also the nickname of Ntsiki’s grandmother Aslina. Her red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot is rich and elegant, with elements of violets, sage, blackberry, plum, bell pepper, and tobacco. On the palate, you’ll feel the broadness and impressive depth of the wine, with smooth tannins and balanced acidity. Drink this knockout wine now and over the next decade.
