Increasingly, American winemakers are saying: “The world is our terroir!” Small and large wineries alike are buying grapes, raw wines or even finish bottles from across state lines, international boundaries and even deep blue seas and putting their brands on them. Sometimes they use bulk juice to finish, and other times the finished juice never makes it to their wineries, even to be shipped. Nothing wrong with that, folks, as the place of origin is clearly on the label for those who care. In this case, it is, “Here’s Aviana, brought to you by C. Mondavi & Family direct from France, Spain and Portugal,” as is the case here. What? Oh, yes, the wine! It offers enjoyable everyday drinking with light cherry flavors, lots of spice and chewy tannins – a lot like an everyday Sangiovese from that other country.
