Bernardus is one of the older players in Monterey County and is probably more known for their iconic Marinus red wine blend than they are for wines like this one. That said, they have an extensive lineup of Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays that includes the famed vineyards of Santa Lucia Highlands. This multi-vineyard blend is a fine Pinot Noir from a great vintage that is offered at a great price for its quality level. It is slightly reductive when first uncaped, but that note blows off quickly in the glass, releasing aromas of cherry, ripe strawberry and regional damp earth notes that play well together from start to finish. It’s ready to drink now, or you can age it 5 to 10 years. Good stuff!
