Block Nine is a Pinot Noir specialist…and Pinot is all that the enterprise makes. Clearly this 2012 wine didn’t spend much time ageing, but according to the company’s website, it spent all of that time in French oak. The wood didn’t leave much of a mark, as there’s nothing smoky or astringent about it. Rather, the wine is characterized by fresh, juicy fruit notes recalling pie cherries and black plums with interesting savory undertones. Very nicely done.
