Brassfield Estate Winery, High Valley – Lake County (California) Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 ($85)

This wine and its Pinot Noir stablemate are my first real exposures to this Lake County (just north of Napa County) winery. I think it is indicative of the promise and reality of the region – spicy aromas with dark berry flavors, some dark chocolate as it opens up and good tannins. The AVA is a relatively new one, founded in 2015, and its hillsides are mainly composed of volcanic red clay.
