It’s difficult to call this a second or third wine from the Caiarossa estate, as the lead wine is based on French varieties while this one is mainly Sangiovese. I also find this Pergolaia vastly more engaging than the vintage I had previously tasted – the 2020 – and on a quality par with its pricier estate blend. On the palate, it is much like a flowing stream, with one current of light and fruity flavors and a deeper one with dusty tannins, flinty minerality and lightly tangy acidity. Somewhere at the finish, the currents harmoniously flow together.
