When Duckhorn started their Canvasback project a few years back, it was with an eye on bringing their level of quality to a new state. This wine says “mission accomplished” emphatically as a different set of aromas and flavors from the juggernaut’s Napa Valley holdings. I imagine a discussion between the owners wishing to add dimension to their personal cellars and finding the right spot to do exactly that. The structure shows Washington well, with ripe varietal fruit tamed by notes of crushed rock and graphite. This will hold well in your cellar, but it is a delight now. Contains 12% Malbec, 9% Petit Verdot and 2% Merlot.
