Most consumers think of red wine when Rioja is mentioned. About ten percent of Rioja’s vineyards are planted to white grapes, so there is a significant quantity of white wine made in Rioja as well. CVNE (an acronym for Compañía Vinícola del Norte de España) is a top Rioja producer. Founded in 1879, the company has a long history of quality Rioja production. The 2024 CVNE Monopole Rioja Blanco is a beautiful and fresh example of Spanish style. Drawn from Viura grapes grown in the Rioja Alta area, it has a bouquet of lemon and peach fruits with hints of herbs, flowers and subtle spice. The flavors are pure and juicy, with lemon, green apple and peach fruits enhanced by the floral and herbal nuances of the Viura grapes. The 2024 harvest was small, but the wine has surprising depth and texture and will drink nicely for another 2 years.
