This wine is a parcel of Premier Cru Les Malconsorts that extends into the southeast corner of Grand Cru La Tâche. Etienne de Montille chooses to bottle this portion of his Les Malconsorts holdings separate from the rest. And, with good reason. This wine is bigger and more brooding than the regular bottling. The spicy, rose floral, cherry candy nose is rich and ripe, yet the wine itself is still tight and needs several years to open. This is particularly true of the palate where the smoked herbs, a hard medicinal note, and cherry pie character combine with a supple, silky mouthfeel to create a wine of great character. Mineral, mushroom, and cola linger on the finish, which has elegant acidity and moderate tannin. Hold this wine for a decade to experience the range of its charms.
