Located north of Lyon and just south of Burgundy, Beaujolais is a broad region devoted to the Gamay grape. At the high end, its Crus deliver wines with bright fruit, minerality, and notable ageability. Morgon is widely regarded as the most robust of these Crus, making it an excellent entry point for red wine drinkers. Domaine des Versauds’ current release, 2020, shows blackberry and black cherry wrapped in a smoke-tinged, dried-fruit profile that underscores the Cru’s complex minerality. Lively acidity gives it versatility at the table, pairing well with a wide range of dishes. Serve it at cellar temperature — the light chill compliments the wine’s structure and balance.
