Diess believes that the terroir of Alsace wine at the highest levels is the field blend. Instead of growing separate blocks of varieties, Deiss prefers field blends that showcase the vineyard, not the grape. The results are unique and inviting, as evidenced in this field blend of Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Beurot, Muscat, and Pinot Noir. The 2018 bursts with yellow apple, tangerine, mango peel, citrus, and a vigorous crushed-stone core. Broad and intricately layered, the palate is full of taut energy and acidity. This stretches out for days before finishing.
