Domaine Tempier is the benchmark producer of Bandol, and their Classique Cuvée is, expectedly, stunning. Made from roughly 75% Mourvèdre that is rounded out with Grenache and Cinsault and accented by small touches of Carignan and Syrah, this wine shows why Tempier remains the reference point for the appellation. Aromatically, it opens with red fruit and a deceptively light hue, but the first sip flips the script — unfurling powerful layers of black cherry, boysenberry, wet autumn leaves, iron, and worn leather, revealing the depth that only Bandol can deliver. Domaine Tempier is built for the long haul. Enjoy this between 2037 and 2042, if you can muster sufficient patience.
