Although winemaker Toti Undurraga came from a Chilean winemaking family and continues to make wine there, he was introduced to Argentine terroir when he worked with Aurelio Montes in introducing the Argentine Kaiken brand for the Chilean producer after apprenticing abroad, including at Franciscan in Napa Valley, which is owned by another Chilean producer. This Chardonnay from the Andes has a Burgundy-like minerality with bold and lightly tart apple flavors, light tannins and a hint of vanilla in the finish. In short, it shows its oak heritage, both fermented and aged in wood and finished in concrete eggs.
