Esporão, Vinho Regional Alentejano (Portugal) “Monte Velho” Reserva 2022 ($18)

Wine label

One whiff of this makes me wish I was back in the Alentejo, where delicious, value-driven wines like this one abound. The first Reserva designation for this label, it is a traditional regional blend, that’s on the low side of the typical ripeness profiles of the past, which is a big plus here. The bouquet is all black fruit and wildflowers, and the flowers show up on the palate like they do on a gourmet plate where you eat the garnish. Supple grip and a long finish complete the package, and for 18 bucks, it is a package anyone can get behind. Contains Aragonez, Trincadeira, Syrah and Touriga Nacional.
