Nearly always deployed as a “hole filler” in wines that lack something, whether color, structure, weight, aroma or flavor, Petit Verdot rarely appears as a soloist. This is certainly worthy as such, with full throttle violet and berry aromas, supple texture and a long finish that adds a kiss of pepper. If you want to know what the variety is like on its own, this is a solid example, and a delicious one at that.
