Sancerre reds are relatively rare, as they only account for 15% of production in the appellation, but there are fine examples that reward a search, like this old-vine rendition. The fruit was sourced from a variety of old-vine vineyards in Sancerre, and the quality and richness of flavor really showed. I found notes of red and black fruit supported by an undertone of iron and flint minerality. All the elements work well together in this 100% Pinot Noir wine.
