There’s a lot to like in this classy expression of McLaren Vale Shiraz. It’s a fairly late release from the vintage, but the layered aromatics and lively structure certainly make it seem worth the wait. Rich blackberry and blueberry pie introduce the nose, followed by notes of gingerbread and soft white pepper. On the palate these elements find voice clearly, with the pepper coming slightly forward in the finish. It’s the acid balance that makes it all work here, and it serves to extend the finish. Lamb time.
