Laurenz V gets its name from one of the winery’s three founding fathers, Laurenz M. Moser V. He was named for his grandfather Lenz Moser lll, aka “Grandpa Grüner,” who is credited with working with the wine grape, Grüner Veltliner, the standard bearer for Austrian wine. Fittingly, Moser and his partners, Dieter Huebler, Franz Schweiger focus their winemaking efforts solely on Grüner Veltliner. I like the description of Gruner from their website: “Think of the floral perfume of an elegant Riesling, the refreshing zip of a Sauvignon Blanc and the lusciousness of a good Pinot Grigio, all in great harmony, with a hint of white pepper as the typical spice of Grüner Veltliner.” This “Singing” bottling is their entry level wine and a great value. It has great balance between the ripe, juicy peach, grapefruit, lime fruit laced with notes of tarragon, fresh ginger and white pepper and the bright and lively citrusy acidity. It is a pleasure to drink as an aperitif will be a juicy, cheerful partner for pasta with a roasted tomato sauce.
