Delicious wines can be found from unusual places. The Old Mission Peninsula of northern Michigan supplies not only exceptional white wine grapes, but also fine red varieties like the Blaufränkisch grapes that comprise this excellent rendition. Winemaker Bryan Ulbrich established Left Foot Charley in 2004 and has partnered with local grape growers to highlight the potential of Michigan wines. The 2022 Blaufränkisch is a delicious, silky textured red that shows beautifully now and has the capacity to age for another 5 or more years. The bouquet is intriguing and complex, with luscious black cherry, raspberry and blueberry fruit tones backed by elements of lilac, herbs, and spice. The flavors are multilayered and smooth, with the blend of red and black fruits deliciously interwoven with the herb and spice hints. It’s a treat that will surprise you with its depth and complexity.
