Cyriaque Rozier, the winemaker behind the Languedoc wines of Château La Roque, also makes small lots of wine from vineyards in and around Pic Saint-Loup. This 100% Cabernet is from 50-year-old vines farmed organically, and the wine was fermented and aged entirely in concrete. In the glass it is assertive with fresh raspberry and blackcurrant aromas. Medium- to full-bodied, it has a silky texture that delivers lovely berry and plum fruit with some subtle herbs along with soft, gentle tannins. There’s an undercurrent of chalkiness in the finish that more than makes up for the lack of oak. Excellent value!
