This fine white is made entirely from the Rolle variety, which can be very successful in Provence but is much more widely known as Vermentino from Italian renditions. Wines of this type are difficult to sell in the USA because consumers associate Provence almost entirely with rosé wines—with the almost single exception of reds from the Bandol appellation. Consequently, they are difficult to find at the retail level, but they’re still worth looking for. This shows appealingly floral aromatics but isn’t overly perfumed. It also shows notable palate weight and flavor impact with orchard fruit flavors without seeming heavy, thanks to fresh acidity. It will prove very versatile with summer seafood dishes such as grilled fish or prawns as well as sushi any time of year.
