The Mount Mary Vineyard Quintet Red Blend 2018 is arguably one of the finest Bordelais-style blends coming out of Australia. It is a testament to what a Pinot Noir-focused winemaker, Sam Middleton, from a cool-climate region can create when given the opportunity to work with Bordeaux varieties – Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petit Verdot. The palate bursts with rich dark plums, raspberries, melted chocolate, and a refreshing lift of freshly cut mint. While it has the material to age beautifully for another 20 years, the lively tension and incensing structure make it perfect to enjoy now with just a slight decant.
