The Montepulciano grape is perhaps the most misunderstood wine grape in the world. Montepulciano the wine is often mistaken for the red wine from the Tuscan village of Montepulciano, which is actually made from sangiovese. Montepulciano the wine is actually from a region of the Adriatic coast of Italy, Abruzzo. Unless it isn’t. This wine is made from the Montepulciano grape but from vineyards in Australia’s Adelaide Hills. Hence the touch of eucalyptus on the nose, which you won’t find in reds from Abruzzo. If you are now completely confused, this is all you need to know. It is rich and delicious, an exquisite expression of this native Italian grape variety. A platinum award-winner at the San Diego International Wine Challenge.
