Foothills Barbera often tends toward the jammy side of the variety’s flavor spectrum, but in the hands of an Italian specialist well versed in both regions, more complexity is possible as shown here. Winemaker Rusty Folena has been working with this site for many years, and he always seems to coax real depth from the fruit. This vintage hits the mark again with bright acidity carrying blueberry and red plum fruit character that is tempered by a rich earthiness. It finishes long, and is worthy of a place at your winter celebration table.
