Pahlmeyer, the $150-a-bottle Bordeaux blend, has become one of the “hot” Napa Valley wines. Jayson, made entirely from Cabernet Sauvignon, is Pahlmeyer’s second wine. It’s no shrinking violet. Inky purple, it’s juicy and concentrated with heaps of dark, blueberry-like fruit flavors. It even conveys some chocolate elements and a hint of tarriness. That said, there’s a vague sweetness to it, likely, in part, from its 15.2% stated alcohol. It has incredibly plush and polished tannins, especially for a second wine. Those who love opulent Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon will love it because you get the Pahlmeyer style at half the usual price.
