Quady North, Rogue Valley (Oregon) “Flagship” Syrah 2020 ($75)

Quady’s “Flagship” Syrah originally was the winery’s best barrel, made only in exceptional years. But now it is site specific, made from the top 10 rows located on the Estate’s upper hillside. Planted to clone #174, the vines are noted for their uniform ripening and small berries. Apparently, everything came together in 2020 resulting in this beautiful Syrah. The stunning bouquet offers plenty of ripe blackberry, plum, with savory accents of game, cloves, and lavender. With nicely layered flavors, and balance, it is vibrant and harmonious leaning toward a refined style. Ultra smooth tannins and subtle oak keep it together through a long finish. Enjoyable now for its youthful appeal, but cellaring will bring additional rewards.
