I was thinking earlier in the day when I tasted this about how many of the traditional California producers still use old-fashioned labels such as “Private Selection” (one ex-Mondavi family) and “Family Reserve” (another Mondavi branch) as if those names actually once meant something. This is a pleasant wine nonetheless, with ripe apple and baked apple fruits, vanilla toastiness and good acidity, though a little lacking in finish. Sorry, no word as to who privately made the selection.
