Totally committed to Chenin Blanc, Natalie Brown of Willow Creek Vineyards offers 3 single-vineyard Chenin Blancs and a blend under her Rococo label. This Shell Creek Vineyard Chenin is made from own-rooted vines planted in 1972 and was fermented in stainless steel. The vineyard lies below limestone cliffs, and this 2024 definitely captures its distinct terroir. With just a gentle swirl, it asserts itself quickly with a rush of orchard fruit and wet stone-like, oyster shell minerality. There are accents of green tea and melon that come across in the flavors. Medium bodied and refreshingly brisk and taut, it finishes long with lots of acidity that concludes with a hint of peach. Unusual for a Chenin Blanc and amazing as a wine.
