It’s such a treat that winemaker Arnaud Weyrich has held back some bottles to offer late-disgorged offerings such as this. Nutty character is forward in the bouquet, with a marzipan back note. It is amazingly fresh on the palate for having been en tirage for 15 years, showing characteristics reminiscent to slightly bruised apple, toast, and lemon zest that linger and keeps things fresh, but with the aged autolysis characteristics of a long-held bottle. I wish there was more of this going on in California – leave it to Roederer to lead the way. Contains 52% Pinot Noir and 48% Chardonnay.
