This is a very serious Brunello from an excellent vintage that will reward years of cellaring for those with sufficient patience. San Felice is the parent company, but the Campogiovanni Estate in the southern portion of the Brunello district near Montalcino is the source for the fruit. Admirably taut and structured, it shows classic notes of dark cherries and berries that are freshened by lively acidity and framed by fine-grained tannins and a healthy dose of spicy, toasty oak. After some aeration, it also displays attractive savory accents and a suggestion of tobacco leaf. It is thoroughly enjoyable now if decanted and paired with food, but is packed with potential for further development. Very impressive.
