After 2021’s successes, winemakers around the state warned of the coming 2022s not quite reaching the same heights, but the more I talk to them, the more surprised many of them have been by the 2022s. This is an example of why – it is everything I love about Syrah in its less ripe sort of style, where acidity comes to the fore and notes of pepper and red fruit run nicely alongside the savory and blue fruit character that is more evident in riper versions. Leave it to Neil Collins to get the best from a vintage.
