Ghiaie della Furba, a Super Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Syrah from Capezzana, Carmignano’s top producer, is a robust wine when young. Even at eight years of age, this tightly wound beauty reveals its glories slowly as it sits in the glass. Its suave and glossy tannins enrobe its mineral qualities. An intriguing meatiness — that’s the Syrah speaking — emerges. Its balance and my experience with Ghiaie della Furba suggest this 2015 has a beautiful future. That said, those who enjoy wines at a more youthful stage of their evolution can enjoy it now if you decant it and don’t rush it.
