Vinos Lechuza was started in 2005 by Ray Magnussen, and now his daughter Kristin Magnussen Shute and her husband carry on the family’s business. I had the pleasure to taste with Kristin (American-born, now a Mexican citizen) on a recent trip to the Valle de Guadalupe. She noted their dedication to merging old world and new world styles to make approachable wines like their 2019 Vuelo. Vuelo is a bold blend of 55% Sauvignon Blanc with 45% Chardonnay, exhibiting tropical notes, lemon glaze, and green-apple skin. The Sauvignon Blanc brings brightness and vibrant acidity, while the Chardonnay offers a soft, round mouthfeel. The dynamic duo of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay complement each other beautifully here.
