Viu Manent, Colchagua Valley (Chile) Carmenere 2020

 Although Viu Manent’s higher end Carmenere named “Secreto” garners more critical attention, I like the way this Reserva comes across as ready to be enjoyed without fanfare.  It has Carmenere’s typical dark color and an aroma brimming with fresh raspberry and plum fruit.  Big and round on the palate, it offers up more raspberry dominated flavors that remain well into the aftertaste.  With its pleasing texture and subtle tannin, it is an easy to drink, uncomplicated red that presents itself as the perfect pizza companion.
