Wakefield, Clare Valley (Australia) Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

Jan 14, 2015

By Rich Cook

A wine that is "named in honour of Bill Taylor Snr., Taylors Founder and Visionary" (Taylors is already copyrighted by the New York winery in the States, and so it is known here as Wakefield) should certainly deliver the best that the winery has to offer, and I’d say they’ve done a spectacular job here.  It’s a beautifully structured wine, with layers of complexity and real elegance.  Blackberry, cherry, cassis, vanilla, soft mint and sweet sage fill your nose, and are followed up by a palate that’s now focused on the mint and red fruit, but will integrate the other nose elements over time.  This is a real collectible gem.  If you’ve got a child born in 2010 and would like some birth year wine to open on a future occasion like college graduation or marriage, this should be a prime candidate. It’s poised to reward the long haul in the cellar.
