As you might guess from the term “Terrassen,” the Grüner Veltliner grapes for this wine are grown on multiple terraces. Apparently, the soils of terraces at higher elevations are stony and wines made from grapes on those terraces have high acidity stone fruit flavor with mineral notes. Wines made from grapes grown at a lower level have more body and ripeness. The result is the delightful mélange of lime, grapefruit, white peach fruit flavors with notes of elderflower. It is balanced with crisp, citrusy acidity and a long finish. It is a versatile food wine that can be enjoyed as an aperitif, with holiday roast turkey or a Thai chicken curry. Willi Brundlmayer took over the family winery in 1981. In addition to the classic Austrian grape Grüner Veltliner, they grow Riesling and several other grape varieties, including reds due to the warming climate.
