Wine prices are – or should be – determined according to whether the producer wants to base planned profits on volume of sales or price margins. Hopefully, Yalumba is working on volume, because the quality of its low-priced, low-alcohol (8%), high-quality Y Series may cannibalize its higher-priced offerings. Not that the wine is outstanding, but it is quite good, with finishing flavors of cassis and cranberry and a northern Rhône-like smokiness that is quite attractive. Then there is that low alcohol for weight watchers.
