D’Alessandro, Nero d’Avola IGT (Sicily, Italy) 2008

Aug 10, 2011

By Michael Apstein

Nero d’Avola, Sicily’s most important red grape, has a promising future because it delivers both fruity and sometimes slightly funky or earthy notes simultaneously.  This one does just that along with mild tannins and a lively, fresh finish.  A slight tarry element balances the black cherry-like fruitiness.  Try it with a robust pasta dish, such as spaghetti putanesca.
