Marchesi di Barolo, Barbaresco (Piedmont, Italy) 2008

The winery name Marchesi di Barolo is misleading since this winery produces several other wines in addition to the Barolo for which it is most famous.  One of these wines is the benchmark Barbaresco.  The vibrant ruby center and oranging fade at the rim are hallmarks of the noble Nebbiolo grape from which this wine is made.  The elegant nose has sweet herbal notes, rose floral, and ripe red cherry.  This continues in the medium-weight palate. The wine finishes with firm tannic grip and bracing acidity.  This wine is a great wine for those who want to understand Nebbiolo.
