Domaine des Schistes, Maury (Roussillon, France) 2008

Jan 19, 2012

By Gerald D. Boyd

At 17.5% alcohol, with loads of ripe slightly jammy flavors, this Maury VDN is a lot like a cross between a Late Harvest Zinfandel and a ripe Merlot.  Ripe cherries dominate the aromatics and flavors.  Sweet and textured with good length and lasting fruit, this is a lovely sipping wine or as dessert.  La Cherisaie (cherry orchard) is one of the more unusual wines tasted.
