Kiepersol Estates Vineyard, Texas (United States) Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

By

Kiepersol Estates Vineyard is located in Tyler, well off the beaten track for Texas grape-growing. And, this wine is from what has become a less-than-fashionable grape for progressive Texas winemakers. Both of these facts make this wine even more impressive. Kiepersol has proven that excellent wines can be made in many parts of the state, and from many types of grapes. The opaque ruby-purple wine has attractive ruby-pink highlights. The saturated color reflects the intensity of aromas and flavors. “Stainless” refers to a lack of oak usage, which allows the purity of the fruit to shine. The bright, perfumed aromatics include juicy cassis, pulpy plum, and ripe blackberry with tart red currant arising in the background. The immediately gratifying fruit gains complexity through the black olive, white pepper, and sweet herbal notes. The wine is vibrant, yet supple, due to firm acidity and velvety tannins. This tension of structure and ripe fruit provides much interest. It is a pretty wine, but also one with power. While easy to drink now, the wine has components to age. Try it with game dishes, grilled or braised meats, or mushroom dishes.
