Cakebread Cellars, Anderson Valley (Mendocino County, California) Pinot Noir 2011

Sep 20, 2013

By Michael Apstein

Cakebread, known for their Napa Valley wines, has expanded to the cooler, more Pinot Noir friendly, Anderson Valley for their foray with the varietal.  While clearly a fruit-focused wine, bright acidity prevents it from being jammy or overdone.  Supple tannins enrobe the sweet dense mixture of lively red fruit flavors.  The barest hint of minerality — non fruit flavors — emerges with time in the glass.  Lovely now, the appearance of complexity over a half hour suggests it will develop nicely over the next few years.
