Zuccardi, La Consulta (Mendoza, Argentina) 2011

Oct 1, 2013

By

The blend of grapes for this wine is 70% Malbec, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% of Ancellotta, an obscure grape whose home is the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy.  Zuccardi is experimenting with several grape varieties, and Ancellotta is used here for the structure and depth it provides.  All of the grapes are grown in the superior La Consulta region of Mendoza, a prerequisite for inclusion in Tito Zuccardi.  The wine has a concentrated red-purple color with a violet rim.  The nose has plum, blackberry, and confit raspberry fruit with meaty, black olive note providing a nice counterpoint.  The wine is dense and layered, showing more fruit notes with aeration.  The tannins are ripe, adding structure without harshness.
