Southern Right, Walker Bay (South Africa) Pinotage 2008

Aug 6, 2010

By Gerald D. Boyd

French-oak aged for 11 months, this complex Pinotage is full and ripe with a medium ruby color, forward prune and dark fruit aromas, and flavors that are seasoned with a little spice.  There’s also a subtle minerality that adds to the complexity of this wine.  It finishes with brisk acidity and precisely 13.27% alcohol.  Ironically, Southern Right features the freedom of whales on the front label of this Pinotage, yet packages the wine in an environmentally unfriendly 57 ounce bottle (a standard full bottle is 45 ounces).
