A solid effort from Freemark Abbey, the 2010 Merlot is neither huge nor terribly complex, but ultimately it is satisfying for those with a red-wine thirst, a Napa Valley taste, and a limited budget. On the nose the wine shows aromas of plum, currant and spice, with firm tannins. It finishes short at this stage, but that should lengthen with another year or so of age.
