Quinta do Noval, Vintage Port (Porto, Portugal) 2011

A wine that one rarely tastes in a lifetime full of dreams.  Only 125 cases were made, and it is so expensive that virtually no one can afford it (but that’s also true of great art, which is certainly worthy of commentary).  Incredibly deep in color, it appears dense and virtually impenetrable.  Brooding young aromas are at once striking but elusive in terms of specific descriptors.  On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, formidably built, and incredibly well structured, with bold, sweet black fruit that is framed by fine acidity and unrelentingly grippy tannins.  This is wine is so amazing that it must be considered one for the ages.
