This wine is from a pioneer producer in Walla Walla that is still one of the valley’s best. This Merlot is big and structured; closed on the nose, focused on the mid-palate, but supple on the finish. While closed at first, the nose opens with air. The sweet aromas of judicious oak usage can be found in chocolate, cocoa, and spice notes. Dark plum, cherry, and crunchy currants lie underneath the oak. The wine is focused on the palate with mouth-coating density, firm tannins, and impressive depth. The lengthy finish broadens to include stony mineral qualities, expansive fruit, and savory elements. Keep this wine for five or more years with assurance of improvement.
