Grenache has a wide range of expression in California, with winemakers choosing options all over the spectrum — high alcohol, Aussie inspired versions abound, with not many success stories to share. This wine shows a more restrained side of the variety, with aromas and flavors of mint, raspberry, blueberry, fall spice and white pepper. It’s quite dry, with bright food friendly acidity and a sustained finish that brings the pepper notes forward. If you can locate some ostrich steaks you’ve got a great pairing.
