Neyen, Apalta (Colchagua Valley, Chile) 2012

 This is an exceptional Bordeaux-style red blend (50 percent Carmenere and 50 percent Cabernet Sauvignon) from Neyen.  Note of blackberry and plum dominate, with a hint of wood spice and a lightly herbal note that common in both grapes when the conditions are cool.  On the nose the wine has a strong savory, gamey note.  On the palate the tannins are polished and elegant and the finish is long and impressive.
